The Austin Music Hall reminds me of an old airport hanger. Huge, 43,000 sq. ft. Capacity is 4,400 with the venue capable of seating 3,000 with metal folding chairs. The new building is a great improvement on the old building that welcomed the likes of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton and ol' Willie. Always the venue of choice for music royalty coming to town. It also hosted the Austin Music Awards show. Austin's live music scene needs a venue like this. Big, but still intimate. Superior sound, stage and lights. Three floors with ample restrooms and bar area. Current shows include Joe Satriani with Mountains legendary Leslie West and Corky Lange. Followed a few days later by the Black Crowes. Not Texas music per say but some of the best music you will hear in Texas on any given day. If you want to see a national act and don't appreciate sitting a mile away like at the Frank Erwin Center, you will love the swanky ballroom glitz and comfort here. Personally I can't wait to see the showcase schedule for the 2009 SXSW festival. I'll bet they top all other Austin live music venues for sheer quality and quantity of talented performers.
