House Park is only open for lunch. Photo/Patrick Dentler House Park Bar-B-Que HOURS: Monday – Friday; 11 am to 2:30 pm. No ribs. Pork loin and a very respectable BBQ brisket sum up House Park's meat selection. Open since 1943, covered in brown smoke stains and cooking in old time oak fired pits you would think this place would have a better rep. Only open for lunch hurts House Park. Loyal lunch crowd but not much real popularity. Street cred is woefully absent. This is not a Texas legend or Austin landmark even though 65 years in business at the same location would suggest so. What's disturbing about House Park is a small effort to improve the quality of BBQ, add pork ribs and chicken to the menu and extend hours into dinner would improve this joint immensely. OK, keep it simple, keep Austin weird and all that. I'm eating at Ruby's. House Park's brisket is very good. After that the menu heads south real quick. Real Texas BBQ? Well… kind of.
