Ben Wash operated this genuine Texas barbeque joint from 1971 to 2002. Well, much to all Austin's benefit, Ben is firin' up the pits again.

Ben's Longbranch has risen from the ashes (no pun intended) like a Phoenix. And Ben Wash is as good as ever. Mutton, sausage, pork ribs, pork butt and brisket. It's all good. Sausage could be spicier for my taste but you don't visit Longbranch for the sausage.

Ben's mutton is a zesty delicacy. Mind blowin' good. Pork ribs are seasoned with pepper and smoked to succulent perfection.

There's nothing fancy about this east Austin landmark. It's real. Here to serve BBQ. And Ben does that real good.

Sauce is tangy, way above average. Brisket is crusted and not quite as moist as I like but still exceptional.

Sides are not the show. I wouldn't waste the space. Leave all the room you can for the smoked meats.

Welcome back Mr. Wash, we've missed you. And genuinely appreciate your return. Eating at your place was exhilarating. Honest food served in a real Texas barbeque joint. Unforgettable experience.

MENU: Pork ribs, brisket, sausage, pork butt, mutton, chicken. By the pound, plate or two meat combination plate. If you have room, peach cobbler and creamy banana pudding.
