Broken Spoke was opened by James White in 1964. Since then it has gained an international reputation for offering authentic Texas music.

National Geographic calls it, “The best country dance hall in the nation.” Texas Highways magazine says it's the “Best Honky Tonk in Texas.”

Visitors include Clint Eastwood, Dolly Parton, Dan Rather, Emmy Lou Harris and Robert Duval.

Music legends that have played here include, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Sons of the Pioneers, Alvin Crow, Jerry Jeff Walker, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Texas Swing legend, Bob Wills.

When you visit this legendary Austin club be sure to check out the Tourist Trap Room. It's filled with amazing memorabilia including photos, hats and too much more to list.

I strongly urge you to catch Alvin Crow here. A classically trained violinist, Alvin can flay a fiddle like no other human, living or dead. The Paganini of country fiddle and not be missed.

I have spent many enjoyable warm summer evenings here with my husband. As Austin clubs go the Broken Spoke rates right at the top with Antone's and the Continental Club.

Take it from me, order the Chicken Fried steak and let your tummy and ears rejoice. Then spend the night dancing to the best live music Austin has to offer. This place gets my recommendation without any reservations. As perfect as it gets.
