COOPER'S BARBEQUE;
Home of the Big Chop!

Ground Zero For Texas Barbeque

Cooper's Barbeque
505 W. Dallas
Llano, TX 78643
Restaurant: (325) 247-5713; Mail Order: (325) 247-5995, (877) 533-5553

HOURS: Open Sunday-Thursday, 10:30 am to 8pm; Friday-Saturday, 10:30 am to 9 pm. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas day.

Cowboy style means meat is cooked over direct heat by mesquite coals about two feet under the grill.

This is the old way. Most Texas barbeque joints use indirect heat. A fire box and smoke chamber style pit.

Who cares when eating is this much fun. You stand in line, (it can get real long on weekends), when your turn comes a pit master opens the lid of the BBQ pit to reveal an endless array of perfectly smoked meats.

Prime rib, sirloin steak, pork ribs, brisket, goat, chicken, sausage and the world famous Cooper's Big Chop. This sucker is two inches thick and has a mild mesquite flavor. Perfect.

Cooper's barbeque ribs are of the big as your arm variety, a great choice. And that's the dilemma. You have to pick your meat from the pit. A mind boggling experience. I usually over order. My husband always orders pork ribs and a big chop. Way too much for any one human to consume at once. Like everyone else, we always take some home to enjoy later.

That's the magic of Cooper's Barbeque. First, driving from Austin couldn't get any better. The Hill Country's most spectacular drives in wildflower season. Beautiful green rolling hills, longhorns, deer and antelope decorate the landscape.

Cooper's barbeque draws crowds from all over Texas. President Bush has declared publicly this is his favorite Texas barbeque.

This place is a destination. Actually their web site is a destination. Tons of great reviews. Mail order information and more.

Family owned and operated by Terry and Karen Wootan. I've know these folks for years, they are real and genuine Texans.

The Wootans also own the real estate office next door. If you like Llano, check them out.

Cooper's barbeque has stood the test of time. It's popularity is a testament to the quality barbeque that is consistently served. Everything I've tried has been exceptional. Try the beans and hope they don't sell out of apple cobbler.

All meat is weighed and served on butcher paper. Plastic forks are available.

I eat at here often. If it was four miles away instead of 40, I'd be there everyday.

Pick your meat from the pit. Go inside, select your sides, have meat cut to order and weighed. Pay for it. Then, take your bundle of genuine cowboy style barbeque to your favorite spot on a picnic table bench. Set your bundle of goodies in front of you, grab with your fingers and put it in your mouth. Chew slowly and deliberately! Then you will have complete knowledge of the Universe… That's Cooper's Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que!
