Originally built in 1997, this hotel has been recently renovated. Location is convenient but busy. University of Texas, downtown business and entertainment districts are minutes away.

The property offers free parking, business center, fitness center, bar, cafe and pool.

Rooms are not overly large at the Doubletree
Club but comfortable in a simple understated way.

Compared to many downtown Austin hotels, the Doubletree Club gets high marks for not being pretentious.

It knows what it is and does it efficiently. Service is good, not exceptional.

I also recommend searching for a good rate. I've heard this hotel has offered standard rooms for as little as $90. Which is a steal for a hotel with this location and amenities.

This location is a cheap cab ride to the best points of interest in the city which is good because this is one hotel you will appreciate coming back to. But not spending all your time there.

Word of warning, the hotel is right next to IH-35. It can get noisy and real sportin' during peak traffic times. Park your car and take a cab.

Since renovation, I find this Lone Star lodge a good value and a great value with a deeply discounted rate.

Hilton efficiency and service in a more laid back you're-on-your-own atmosphere.

You probably won't fall in love with this hotel, but you won't hate it either.

The pool at the Doubletree Club is small, but
very, very comfortable. Great on a hot day.

LOCATION: Seven miles from Austin Bergstrom International Airport. Central location at IH-35 and MLK Jr. Boulevard (15th St.). Adjacent to the University of Texas at Austin campus and Frank Erwin Center.

• Topaz Bar & Grill, serves contemporary American cuisine.

ROOMS: Standard room comes with one king or two-double beds, smoking or non-smoking. They also include free high speed Internet, two phones with two lines, voicemail, coffeemaker, iron/ironing board, in room movies, work desk, bathroom amenities, hairdryer.

Accessible Rooms have a minimum 40-inch clearance on door ways and between furniture. Vanities and closets are accessible. Each room or suite is equipped with a strobe-light door, phone and alarm system. Some bathrooms also offer a roll-in shower.

MEETING/CONVENTION SPACE: The Capitol Boardroom is 420 sq. ft., can seat 12 people in a conference setting. The Oakwood Room is 720 sq. ft. and can seat up to 50 people theater style. Their largest meeting space is the University Hall at 1,480 sq. ft. It can hold a maximum of 100 people.
