Falconhead is eighteen holes of golf nirvana. Designed by Chris Gray, opened in the community of Bee Caves in 2003. I watched this course being built. I live about ten minutes away. The effort that went into the design and construction was monumental.

This is a PGA Tour Signature Series Course. Meeting the lofty standards of the PGA tour.

What I like most is there is very little not to like. Beautiful scenery, rolling hills, gentle slopes and trees spot the fairways.

The course has more doglegs than my game prefers. There are 26 traps but they pose less a problem than the deceptively difficult greens.

You can really over putt on these fast hard well maintained greens. I don't remember a level green on the entire course. The slopes on the greens make for hard reads and well thought out putts.

I would rank this one of the premier public golf courses in central Texas. One of the most enjoyable Austin golf courses I've golfed.

I like this course because it's fun. Not real difficult once you learn the greens.

The variety is also way above average. Each hole is different but not increasingly difficult.

The condition of the course is excellent. My experiences here have always been good. I only wish they could figure a way to reduce fees about 15%.

If you like playing downhill, then uphill on the same hole, you will enjoy this course.

The 17th hole is such a unique hole and pleasant surprise. I'll let you travel it yourself. My favorite.

AUSTIN TRAVEL TIP: My choice for one of Austin's premier cheap hotels is the Mountain Star Lodge (512) 263-2010. Starting at about $90 per night. About a half mile from the course.

LOCATED: About 30 minutes west of Austin in the town of Bee Caves.

From Austin go west on FM 2244 to Hwy. 71 and turn right. Take another right on Hwy. 620. It's on your left.

FEES: $59 – 79. Twilight and Super Twilight rates. Rates include green fees and cart. Traditional golf attire required.

GOLF COURSE & FACILITIES: Eighteen hole course. Driving range with target greens and a short game area with places to practice putting and chipping. Also practice bunkers.

Four golf professionals on staff to provide lessons. Junior Golf Clinics also available. Pro Shop.

RESTAURANT/BAR: Clubhouse has a snack bar and full bar. The Talon’s Grill is open from 7 am to 5 pm in winter and from 7 am to 7 pm in warmer weather. Hamburgers, hotdogs, wraps, sandwiches, nachos, and chips and salsa . Breakfast tacos served from 6 - 9 in the morning.

Beverage cart service every day.
