Hill's Cafe serves food. I've never eaten here. But have attended several shows at this south Austin music legend.

Charlie Goodnight was a Texas Ranger, cattleman and responsible for the development of thousands of miles of cattle trails that have since become Texas roads and even cities.

Goodnight opened the cafe in 1941 with partner “Posey” Hill. Today the cafe still stands as a tradition in south Austin.

The cafe has grown from a 20 seat coffee shop to a 500 seat live music Austin legend.

The music schedule is strange, even by Austin standards. Derailers one night, No Justice the next. Check the schedule to see what you will be getting into.

Shows have a relaxed pace and you won't be absorbed by masses of sweating flesh. Not that kind of joint. Not that kind of music.

There are few establishments that have as much history as this place in south Austin. Bill Clinton himself adorns the current website home page. President Johnson ate here often. Two presidents and a whole lot of Texas music history.
