Mention the Hole In The Wall to many Austinites and you trigger a flood of good memories. Opened in 1974 this is the most revered of the golden-age-clubs of the Austin music scene.

As Doug Sahm said, “cheap beer, good music and it's warm when it's cold.” An estimated 10,000 plus artists have performed on the postage stamp sized stage. Including Stevie Ray Vaughan, the Mavericks, Emmy Lou Harris, LeRoi Brothers, Tailgators, Bill Carter, Rosie Flores and virtually all of the most recognized names in Austin music legend and lore.

What makes this dive unique and genuine is the mix of its glorious past and the hope for a similar future. Once the very best of Austin clubs, they have a mountain to climb to reach the pinnacle of their own past history.

To its credit, still there on Guadalupe. Every time I drive by I smile. I have a history here and hope it never closes.

I saw a new band called the Van Buren Boys here. It's only a matter of time! These guys are fun.
