LA ZONA ROSA
Brings Top National Talent to the Stage

La Zona Rosa

Tucked away on West Fourth Street, this venerable Austin club overcomes its off the beaten path location by booking top local and national talent.

Willie Nelson, Joe Ely, Cheap Trick, Susan Tedeschi, Dream Theater, Dwight Yoakam, Avenged Sevenfold and countless others.

Catering to all ages, all ages are admitted. The age of each specific audience depends on the music being offered.

A few years ago I went to the Cheap Trick show. In my mid forties I believe I was the youngest in attendance. At other shows here the audience has been so young I felt like a chaperon. Or worse – a parent.

Like many Austin clubs, they have two stages. A club stage and a large stage in the concert hall.

Live music Austin style with an eclectic mix of performers ranging from rock to county. World beat to jazz.

Unfortunately, they don't offer chairs in the main venue. You can end up standing for hours. The door charge and beer prices reflect the quality of talent on the stage.

Sound is very good as is the lighting. Pillars obstruct some views and the stage is pushed into a corner which makes viewing the entire stage impossible from various spots in the room.

La Zona Rosa is a very popular SXSW venue because of its size. You can expect their SXSW showcases to be some of the most attended during the festival. Parking is also a problem. Check out the City Hall Parking Garage (www.ci.austin.tx.us/cityhall/map.htm) for the most convenient parking options.

Bottom line? High marks for great shows but not one of the more comfortable or convenient Austin clubs. There are NO CHAIRS and you MUST ARRIVE EARLY for the most popular shows. Resulting in four to six hours on your feet!

I attend a show here almost every other month. I have a good time. Shows are excellent and watching the diverse audience interact with each other is great entertainment as well.

AUSTIN TRAVEL TIP: La Zona Rosa consistently gets the best SXSW talent, before you attend a SXSW showcase or one of La Zone Rosa's fine concerts, visit Waterloo Records just down the street at Sixth and Lamar. One of, if not the finest independent record stores in America. Great selection and even better prices.
