Most Difficult of Austin Public Golf Courses?

Morris Williams Golf Course, Mo Willy as it is called here, is a great value. Known for being home to the great Harvey Penick National Championship Teams. The Kite, Crenshaw era.

Designed by Leon Howard the course is considered one of, if not the most difficult of Austin's municipal golf courses. Located by the old airport the course does not suffer from a deteriorating neighborhood.

Rolling and devious design of par 72, 6,636 yards of course that require a multitude of shots. An undulating landscape and what may be Austin's best greens, makes Mo Willy a mixed bag of unique variety.

Greens are elevated and small. Well kept and fast. Hole 3 will challenge even the advanced golfer. Try a tee to green 50 foot drop over a pond to a too small elevated green.

Hope you like water. It's all over the back nine and requires as much shot selection as actual shot execution. Besides a lot of beautiful water, there are gorgeous trees lining the back nine fairways begging for your hook.

Mo Willy is a prime example of the older Austin golf courses with one exception. Design.

Design makes Morris Williams Golf Course stand out. This is not a glorified park with flags and holes. But a real course where thinking through is the best way to play through.

All things considered, old club house, location, etc., this course represents a good golf experience and an excellent value.

Most avid golfers really enjoy this course. I think if you enjoy golf you will enjoy one of Austin's legendary public golf courses -- Mo Willy.

AUSTIN TRAVEL TIP: Don't get caught in rush hour traffic around Mo Willy. Brutal. Reserve 10 am tee time. Beat the traffic completely.

RESERVATIONS: Weekday reservations are taken seven days in advance. For weekends, reservations are taken starting on Tuesday at 7 am.

LOCATED: About 5 miles east and north of downtown Austin.

From downtown take IH-35 north to Manor Rd. Go east (right) to the course, it will be on your right.

FEES: $18 – 20. Senior, Junior, evening and sunset discounts.

GOLF COURSE & FACILITIES: Designed by Leon Howard, 18 holes. Driving range and putting greens.

RENTAL: Club and cart rental.
