Three hundred and seventy-five guest rooms and suites make the Omni Hotel one of the largest downtown hotels.

Built in 1986, renovated in 1994 it shows some wear. This is an ultra modern facility. I'm reminded of a Las Vegas hotel without the bells and whistles.

I stayed here twice. Both visits were uneventful and predictable. Which can be a good thing if you don't look for adventure in your stay.

Location is excellent. The hotel is also a part of the Austin Centre office complex. State Capitol, Sixth Street and other points of interest are within walking distance or short cab ride.

I did not like the restaurant. 'Nuff said. However, this is a 14 floor hotel and the city views from the higher floors are amazing. Be sure to book a room that offers city views instead of facing the atrium.

to request a view of the city, not the atrium.

Service is efficient if not friendly. Rates can be gotten at significant discounts because of the number of rooms available.

This is not a romantic stay, honeymoon or destination hotel.

Omni Hotel Austin delivers a good but aged comfortable room, decent amenities and acceptable service at a reasonably discounted rate when you can get it.

Promoted as a luxury hotel, I disagree. A superior, efficient, well located hotel for sure. If you expect genuine luxury you will certainly be disappointed.

FROM THE AIRPORT: Turn left (west) onto Hwy. 71. Exit Hwy. 183 north. Go 2 miles to 7th Street exit. On 7th Street go 3 miles to IH-35. At IH-35 turn right onto access road. Take immediate left going under IH-35 onto 8th Street. Go 3 blocks to San Jacinto. Cross San Jacinto, Omni Hotel Austin entrance is on the left.
