The Paramount Theater is a City of Austin Landmark, State of Texas Landmark and listed on the National registry of Historically Significant Places. Built in 1915, this was once Sam Houston's office.

Today the Paramount Theater is an Austin live music venue and performing arts center. It's also essential as a SXSW Film Festival venue.

Here's a partial list of who has played the Paramount – Houdini, Buffalo Bill, Orson Wells, George M. Cohan, John Phillip Sousa, Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, Jerry Jeff Walker, Joe Ely, Tibetan Monks and Texas Opera Theatre.

Leo Kottke plays here and his guitar tone in this perfectly restored old theater sounds better than his meticulously recorded records.

SXSW Film Festival is not to be missed and movies are offered at the Paramount almost daily.

The State Theater is next door and offers similar facilities.

The Paramount is not your standard Austin live music venue. It's an old beautifully restored theater that still has the too-small seats. It's a good Austin arts and music experience. Don't miss it even if it's just to see an old movie.
