The Saxon Pub got the Austin Chronicle's award for “best listening room” and I don't disagree.

This doesn't feel like other Austin clubs, more a neighborhood bar with pool tables. They open at 11 am and serve up top line Austin live music seven nights a week.

Austin nightlife wouldn't be the same without the place. From Willie Nelson to Jake Andrews with the likes of Bob Schneider, Rusty Wier, WC Clark, Soulhat, Monte Montgomery, Joe Kubek, James Hand, Omar and the Howlers, Jan Dee Graham, the Resentments, and the unflappable Miss Lavelle White as regular performers.

Saxon Pub is an authentic Austin live music destination. It's dark and friendly. The stage, sound and lighting are perfect for this room. You have to be 21 to enter and the cover charge is always reasonable. Drinks and beer are also fairly priced.

This is an Austin nightlife celebrity hot spot. I had a brief conversation with Sandra Bullock just outside the little girls room during a Bob Schneider show.

Rumor has it that Johnny Depp, Bruce Willis and Russell Crowe have attended shows here. At least that's what a bartender told me -- and I believed him.

So do yourself a favor, when you visit Austin, plan on seeing a show at one of the truly great Austin clubs. It will surely make your Austin live music experience a good one. Highly recommended.
