SHADOWGLEN GOLF CLUB Rated By Golf Digest One of the “Top 10 New Best Golf Courses”
Barb's #3 Personal Favorite Austin Golf Course Pick

Not as many bunnies here as Grey Rock Golf Club. Picture
ShadowGlen was designed by Roy Bechtol and Randy Russell. Opened in 2004, located in Manor, nine miles east of Austin. One of my Top 5 Austin Personal Favorite Golf Course Picks. Fees are reasonable for the course, service and top quality clubhouse. The absolute only complaint I have about this course is it's not in my backyard. My husband and I like this course so much we have had serious discussions about moving closer to it. If I could only play on one course for the rest of my days this would be it. I rate this a 10 in every category. Challenging, super variety, absolute drop-dead scenery. Off the meter fun factor. Disney quality maintenance combined with TifEagle greens, TifSport fairways and Y2 zoysia grass surround the bunker walls. AND NO CROWDS!! As Texas golf courses go, this one is very unique. You play through several small ravines that include water, creeks, doglegs, bunkers, waste areas, berms, bumps and mounds. Personally I find the greens the most challenging in Austin. Large, fast with very deceptive slope and undulations. Putting is elevated to an art form. Regardless of the tee box you select, the 7,174 yard course is huge. Low scores here are rare in my family. Even from the white tee box, this course will whip you like a rented mule if your putting game isn't spot on perfect. Service and staff rank dead even with Teravista. This is one great Austin golf treasure and one of, if not the very best of all Texas golf courses. I'm not exaggerating, for my taste and game, ShadowGlen is almost perfect. Add all the critters you see at Grey Rock Golf Club and locate it less than an hour from my home and this course gets my #1 Personal Favorite Austin Golf Course Pick. Every serious golfer needs to experience ShadowGlen for themselves. Words don't do it justice. Water hazards on ten holes, 55 sand traps and long natural grass hazards. The back nine is completely different from the front nine. One has trees, elevation changes and nasty tall grass roughs. The other is loaded with ponds, creeks, bunkers, ravines. Thumbs way, way up for ShadowGlen. AUSTIN TRAVEL TIP: After your round of golf go to Walter E. Long Metropolitan Park. Seven miles south of Manor. Picnicing and fishing on Walter E. Long Lake are popular activities here. Swimming (no lifeguard on duty), hiking, volleyball courts, Kayak and motor boat rentals available. Click here (opens a new window) for more park information.
