FBO services at Texas airports vary greatly as does cost of fuel which seems to change daily. Included here is general aviation information for several airports in Central Texas so you can shop fuel prices for yourself. Signature Austin (Signature Flight Support) and Atlantic Aviation serve Austin Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA). Hood Regional Airport) - Also known by it's military designation, Robert Gray Army Airfield. Killeen Airport is based at the Ft. Hood military complex and offers daily non-stop commercial flights. American Eagle Airlines – service to Dallas/Ft. Two old time Texas airports. Killeen is an army town. Population 100,967. Plenty of hotels, restaurants, car rental, pawn shops and surplus stores. An hour drive to Austin. Approximately three hour drive to Dallas and San Antonio. The small town of Gatesville is rural, population of 15,591. The town is about 40 miles west of Waco. Gatesville borders Ft. Hood on the north, the Killeen Airport borders Ft. Hood on the south. Lampasas Municipal Airport - General aviation services include 24 hour self-service fueling, 4200 ft. runway (1280 x 23 m). Expandable to 5000 with instrumental Flight Rules approach. Lampasas has a population of nearly 7,000. Small, friendly Texas town. Thirty miles west of the Killeen Airport. Limited car rental, motel options, but Lampasas has Storm's Drive-in where Elvis ate while serving at Ft. Hood. Deer out number people in Lampasas by 1000 to 1 – not real sure about that number, but deer are noted in and around the vicinity of the airport. Georgetown is about 30 miles north of Austin on IH-35. Population of nearly 47,000. Heavy deer population in and around airport. Gillespie County Airport - Fredericksburg, Texas. Runway is 5001 X 75 ft. (1524 X 23 m). Full general aviation services provided by Fredericksburg FBO. Airport Hangar Hotel and Diner are famous. Three miles southwest of Fredericksburg. Tourist town. Home of the Nimitz Navel Museum, great German food. Not many hotel rooms. Population 10,087. YO Dude Ranch close by. Quaint sleepy little city nestled in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. Lakeway Airpark, Inc. - 17 miles west of Austin, Texas in Lakeway. Runway 16/34, 3930 X 70 ft. (1198 X 21 m), asphalt. Tiedowns. Self-service fuel with credit card, 100LL. Open seven days a week during daylight hours. GA only. Check web sight for noise abatement procedures. Deer in abundance. Lakeway is of course a vacation lake community. Golf ground zero.
